BALLROOM DANCING TO THE SOUNDS OF BIG BAND IN JANUARY
The Skylarks Saturday, January 21, 2006 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Buck Recreation Center 2004 W. Powers Ave., Littleton 303-797-8787. Gaining in popularity, the Skylarks have been performing their big band sound for the dancing and entertainment pleasure of metro residents for the past two years. Lead by Littleton music educator and trombonist Ron Ingle, the octet is made up of three saxophones, two brass, bass, drums, a piano and vocalist but has played more intimate events as a smaller combo. Skylark vocalist Barbara Amaral comes to Denver from a successful 20 year singing career in Austin, TX, where she performed for such notables as Lady Byrd Johnson and participated in the concert honoring Prince Charles. Skylarks Combo performs under the umbrella of the Littleton Community Music Association (LCMA) and is featured 6 times a year at dance events hosted by the South Suburban Parks and Recreation. LCMA provides performance opportunities for adults and youth in a supportive community setting. KEITH OXMAN CD RELEASE PARTY
On Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4, 2006, Dazzle and Capri Records, Ltd. will be hosting a Keith Oxman CD release party . Dazzle (930 Lincoln St.) in Denver. This is Keith Oxman’s 6th CD for the Capri Record label and it is entitled “Dues In Progress”. The CD features the legendary trombonist, Curtis Fuller and Curtis will be in Denver to play both of the Dazzle release evenings. There will be two shows each night at 7pm and 9pm. The band will include Keith Oxman (tenor saxophone); Curtis Fuller (trombone); Marcus Hampton or Al Hood (trumpet); Chip Stephens (piano); Ken Walker (bass); and Todd Reid (drums). We are especially proud to present the legendary trombonist, Curtis Fuller. His credits are quite lengthly and include playing and recording with such other greats as Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, Charlie Parker and John Coltrane to name a few. He is the only trombone soloist to appear on the recordings of John Coltrane and is the last living member of Coltrane’s timeless classic, “Blue Train”.
